College of Computing Unveils New Chant to Ignite School Spirit
The Georgia Tech College of Computing is embracing a new tradition with its very own chant, a concept spearheaded by Dean Vivek Sarkar. Inspired by the energy and pride seen in student groups, Dean Sarkar envisioned a chant that would unite students and showcase their enthusiasm at College events.
To bring this vision to life, School of Computing Instruction Interim Chair Mary Hudachek-Buswell proposed a competition where students could submit their own chant ideas. The competition was introduced in the CS1100 course, where teaching assistants (TAs) and students were given the opportunity to vote on which submission best captured the spirit of the College of Computing.
With over 20 student submissions, the competition was narrowed down to six finalists. In the end, the winning chant was created by a team called “Georgia Tech RAT(s),” whose entry stood out among the rest.
“CS1100 students represent a broad spectrum, and this chant was the clear winner,” SCI Interim Associate Chair Melinda McDaniel said. “We will use this chant for years to come.”
The three winning team members—computer science majors Tyler Myung, Rohan Bansal, and Amit Uasha—will receive a prize from the College for their winning submission. Their chant will now become a staple at College of Computing events, solidifying a sense of unity and pride among students, faculty, and alumni.
The official chant is:
Build with purpose, lead with pride
Yellow Jackets, watch us rise
Tech Computing, light the flame
Write the code, change the game
Go Jackets!
In addition to the chant, the College has introduced a new hashtag—#ChangetheGame—to further amplify the initiative. Dean Sarkar will present the chant to the College’s advisory board on April 3, where board members, composed of former students, will receive t-shirts to commemorate the occasion.
"This chant is a symbol of the strong, collaborative spirit that defines our computing community. It was created by students, for students, and will serve as a unifying tradition in the College of Computing. We’re excited to see it bring energy and pride to College events and beyond,” said Director of the Office of Community and Student Enrichment Troy Peace.
With this new tradition, the College of Computing continues to strengthen its identity and foster a deep sense of pride among its students and community. As Georgia Tech Computing continues to innovate and inspire, the chant will serve as a rallying cry for generations to come.
As computing revolutionizes research in science and engineering disciplines and drives industry innovation, Georgia Tech leads the way, ranking as a top-tier destination for undergraduate computer science (CS) education.
